Tucked into New Hampshire’s Dartmouth–Lake Sunapee region, New London is the kind of town that feels like a well-kept secret. With historic charm, easy access to nature, and a walkable Main Street, it’s the perfect spot for a Summer weekend escape. Whether you're here for lake time, local art, or leisurely dinners, here’s how to make the most of your visit—especially if you’re staying right in the heart of it all at the New London Inn.

Friday: Arrive and Explore Main Street

After checking in at the New London Inn, you’re already in the center of everything. Drop your bags, stretch your legs, and take a stroll down Main Street for the local's guide to town. Browse the curated goods at Artisans and Allioops, where you’ll find local art, gifts, and fresh flowers. If you’re the type who travels with a half-packed suitcase, no worries—Hubert’s has you covered with outdoor wear and essentials for the whole family.

Once you’ve had your fill of shopping, it’s time to settle in for dinner at The Elms, just downstairs from the Inn. This beloved local spot has recently welcomed a new inspired chef, Fransisco, who brings creative energy and a deep appreciation for locally sourced ingredients. Expect thoughtfully crafted dishes, seasonal flavors, and an inviting atmosphere perfect for easing into the weekend.

Saturday: Lakeside Leisure & Live Music

Start your morning with a scenic walk at Philbrick-Cricenti Bog, a unique trail system through a kettle hole bog filled with rare plant life. After your hike, head over to our sister property, the Inn at Pleasant Lake, where you can spend a relaxing afternoon by the water. Lounge on the lakeside lawn, enjoy the mountain views, and treat yourself to a leisurely al fresco lunch with a glass of wine and our brand-new Oak Room Pilsner—a crisp, clean lager brewed just for us. It’s summer, perfectly served.

Before heading back to Main Street, pop into Morgan Hill Bookstore—a local favorite for curated summer reads and thoughtful gifts.

Come late afternoon, make your way back to The Elms for their Summer Music Series, held right on the lawn from 3:00–8:00 PM. Catch local musicians, enjoy craft cocktails, and dig into the vibrant seasonal menu. It’s the kind of night where locals and visitors mix, kids dance in the grass, and the sun lingers just a little longer.

🗓️ Music Series Dates:June 14 • July 12 • August 2 • September 27

Sunday: Slow Morning & Sweet Farewells

Sleep in, then head across the street to Blue Loon Bakery—a cozy, welcoming spot known for its scratch-made breads, pastries, and excellent coffee. Settle into one of their outdoor tables with a croissant and a cold brew, and soak in those final small-town moments before hitting the road.

If there’s time, pop into the New London Historical Society to explore the 19th-century village, or walk off your morning pastry with a casual stroll through the Community Garden at Tracy Memorial Library, originally designed by the Olmsted Brothers.

Final Tip from a Local:

There’s no need to overbook yourself here. New London moves at a gentler pace—and that’s part of the magic. Stay at the New London Inn, dine well at The Elms, and let the town’s charm do the rest.
